That’s Entertainment Celebrates Free RPG Day!

 

Join That’s Entertainment at 244 Park Ave, Worcester, MA for Free RPG Day, Saturday, June 15^th. Free Role-playing books will be given out all day, from 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., on a first-come, first-served basis. Free RPG Day books will be limited to approximately two per person. Selecting from different tiers may change the quantity of Free RPGs a person may select, especially if a selection includes some of the larger swag items. Attendees may also try their luck in the Critical Hit Challenge. Roll a 19 or 20 on a D20 and you could win a full-sized, hardcover RPG book. Attendees may also sign up in advance to play in one of four, FREE one-shot RPG adventures, which will be taking place in the store’s gaming room (Also known as The Red Room). Free RPGs and one-shot adventures are intended for ages teen and up.

 

Established in 2007, Free RPG Day is a national event organized by Impressions Game Distribution Services, which works with participating hobby game retailers and RPG publishers to bring new and exclusive RPG quick-start rules and adventure modules into the hands of gamers.

“We love participating in Free RPG Day,” says Sorana Gatej. “It just makes everyone so happy. We hope to see the familiar faces of our long-time supporters, and also a lot of new faces. These days, lots of people seem to be looking for activities that are social and challenging, and RPGs fit the bill.”

BEGINNER GOBLINVILLE RPG ADVENTURE WITH CREATOR MICHAEL DUNN-O’CONNOR

Creator of Kickstarter RPG Goblinville, Michael Dunn-O’Connor will walk participants through a “gobliny” adventure!

Michael Dunn-O’Connor, the creator of Goblinville, is a Worcester native. He began playing RPGs while in high-school, and worked for many years to develop his own as a labor of love.

 

““That’s Entertainment has been my favorite Worcester haunt since high school, so It’s a dream come true to be running a game I designed there,” says Dunn-O’Connor. “There’s a lot of innovative design in indie RPGs right now and it’s exciting to be part of it. I’m looking forward to teaching some new players and seeing what their goblins get up to.”

 

A role-playing game (RPG) is a social pastime in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. The first commercially available RPG, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), was inspired by fantasy literature and the wargaming hobby and was published in 1974. The popularity of D&D led to the birth of the tabletop role-playing game industry, which publishes games with many different themes, rules, and styles of play.
