1st place goes to #4 Sara A with her kit-bashed Boneclaw! Congratulations Sara, you won a $50 store credit prize! What a unique take on this creature! Your consideration for light and shadow in your painting is very pro-level! Our staff especially loved the hand-sculpted fur, the addition of the impala skull, and the realisitc blood on the hands. It has a Baphomet/Necromancer/Dark Shaman vibe. We would be scared to death to meet this creature in game.
2nd place goes to #6 Matt S! Congratulations, you won a $25 store credit prize! Wow, Matt! Your Boneclaw is awesome! The staff loved the textures and shadowing on the flesh and bones, but what really wowed us was your epic scenery in this piece, especially the faux swamp water. Your muted tones really create a sickly environtment, giving it a realistic decayed look. Gorgeous work!
3rd place goes to #9 Chuck M! You won a $15 store credit prize! Very cool miniature, Chuck! You have mad kit-bashing skills! We loved your ability to make saturated colors work so well on this mini. You took great care in blending colors and creating textures, and the head and wings you chose seemed to go perfectly on this miniature. Beautiful work!

We can't believe it's been a full year since we expanded our store to the B-Side, the former space that was once Jelly's Discs! Last year on May 11th, Mayor Joseph Petty of Worcester honored our new expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at That's Entertainment, and he also officially proclaimed May 11th as That's Entertainment Day! ![]()

Ever since "The Big Move" in 1992 (see Pop 45 Moment #7), That's Entertainment has been one of the world's LARGEST collectibles stores! When we moved into 244 Park Avenue, there was plenty of elbow room, but as we steadily added to the breadth and depth of our offerings over the years, even our 5,000 square foot main showroom had become somewhat… cozy. Guests would often say, "You should tear down that wall and take over Jelly's!"![]()
That idea was an actual possibility, but one factor against it was that we had a long-time tenant occupying the 246 Park Avenue space next door, the CD store, Jelly's. Another consideration was that although having all that extra room would open up many exciting new possibilities, it would also increase all of our ongoing expenses and present many new organizational challenges. And, hey, things were going very well just as they were!![]()

But by 2021, when the owners of Jelly's decided to retire, the stars aligned and it was finally the right time to expand That's Entertainment! There were a lot of decisions to be made right off the bat about how all that space-- even a bit larger than the existing store-- would be best utilized and divided... for events, additional retail, offices, processing areas, and storage. My daughter Cassandra flew to Worcester and worked with our Management team for several days to lay out the general vision. ![]()

Our long-time Company Manager Ken was involved in those early stages, but we realized he would be retiring before construction was finished. Someone else would have to take the lead in carrying out the overall plan we had all agreed upon. Someone would need to hire and manage the contractors, and make most of the big decisions and small choices that would arise daily in the coming months. For a number of reasons, that someone would be our Guest Experience Manager, Sorana! So I'll step aside for a moment and let her tell you a little about how it all unfolded!![]()

Sorana recounts, “When company manager Ken tasked me with the responsibility of expanding the physical space of That’s Entertainment into the former Jelly’s Discs location next door to us, I was a bit intimidated by the scale of the project, but my excitement quickly overrode the fear. Our store at 244 Park Avenue had become more and more cramped over the years. I won’t deny that I had dreamt of having more space on more than one occasion. The tight aisles in our vinyl records and board games sections had unfortunately made the areas difficult to browse, especially during our busy weekends. Our events were also cramped for space. Creating a larger, more comfortable event space, especially for our weekly and monthly tabletop gaming events, would be a dream come true.![]()

"For a year and a half I worked with carpenters, electricians, painters, and other contractors on making the expansion a space that not only fit our needs, but also looked and felt inviting to shop in. As my focus is always giving our customers the best experience possible, the look and flow of our retail and event space was important to me.![]()

"Many obstacles later, the expansion finally neared completion. We scheduled an official ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Joseph Petty for Saturday, May 11th, 2024. Our team rushed to fill the expanded departments with stock for opening day, but in the end it all came together just in time for the grand reveal. Mayor Petty even went so far as to officially proclaim May 11th 'That’s Entertainment Day' before the cheering crowd! Also, as you can see in the video link below, I was allowed to use some DANGEROUSLY BIG SCISSORS to cut the ribbon!"![]()

So that's how "The B Side" came to be! As we celebrate 45 years of That's Entertainment, we're bigger and better than ever! It's been fun to take this trip down memory lane, but we're already thinking of ways to make even more great moments! We hope you'll join us!![]()
